Pipeline Integrity Management System and Hydraulic Flying Lead Installation

Project Date: September 2025

Summary

HYDRA supported an owner/operator’s integrity management program by executing a large-scale subsea inspection campaign across pipelines, flowlines, and risers in the Gulf of America utilizing the dual-ROV vessel Subsea Responder IV.

Scope

The campaign deployed two independent inspection spreads

  • Radiography-based tomography (CT / gamma scanning)
  • Ultrasonic and electromagnetic NDT inspection

These spreads, operated by specialized subcontractors, were fully integrated into HYDRA’s execution model, enabling efficient data acquisition across multiple assets.

HYDRA provided the Subsea Responder IV as an ROV support vessel to conduct external inspections of pipelines and flowlines across multiple platforms in the Mississippi Canyon and Green Canyon offshore areas. In parallel with inspection activities, HYDRA installed a hydraulic flying lead (HFL), deploying the HFL through the vessel’s moonpool and completing subsea connection to the production tree. This required engineered installation equipment placement and seafastening, precise ROV manipulation, subsea positioning, and interface alignment, demonstrating HYDRA’s capability to execute inspection and intervention scopes concurrently within a single campaign.

Scope included:

  • Integration and support of multiple inspection tooling spreads (radiographic and UT/EM)
  • Coordination of subcontractor inspection teams
  • Execution of subsea intervention activities, including HFL installation and connection

The project required continuous coordination between vessel operations, ROV teams, and multiple third-party inspection providers to ensure efficient execution across varying inspection methodologies and locations.

Why Hydra?

HYDRA delivered a fully integrated offshore solution—combining vessel operations, ROV services, and subcontractor management into a single, cohesive execution model.

By successfully coordinating multiple inspection technologies in addition to subsea intervention work, HYDRA demonstrated the operational discipline and technical capability required to manage complex, multi-scope offshore campaigns. The result was safe, efficient execution, high asset coverage, and reliable delivery in a demanding deepwater environment.
