Flotel Campaign

Project Date: January 2026

Summary

HYDRA supported a critical offshore maintenance campaign by deploying the Subsea Responder II as a flotel to accommodate and manage a large construction workforce. Over a multi-phase operation, HYDRA provided safe, continuous personnel transfer and accommodation services, enabling uninterrupted platform work during a time-sensitive shut-in event. The project was executed with a structured shift rotation, strong vessel positioning, and seamless coordination between offshore teams.

Scope

HYDRA was contracted to provide a multi-purpose service vessel configured as a flotel to support offshore construction activities on an operator’s platform. Scope included mobilization of the Subsea Responder II, installation of a 12-person Portable Accommodation Module (PAM) and Marine Sanitation Device (MSD), and accommodation for up to 56 personnel.

Operations included continuous personnel transfers between vessel and platform via crane basket, execution of 12-hour shift rotations, and full marine and project management support throughout both phases of the campaign.

Challenges

The project required precise coordination of personnel logistics during a constrained shutdown window, where timing and efficiency were critical to overall project success. Offshore conditions introduced periods of elevated winds and sea states, requiring careful vessel positioning and operational awareness to maintain safe transfer operations.

Additionally, the Corral platform’s limited berthing capacity necessitated a fully self-sufficient offshore accommodation solution, placing increased importance on onboard systems, crew coordination, and shift management.

Why Hydra?

HYDRA’s ability to integrate marine operations with project execution allowed for seamless delivery of flotel services in a dynamic offshore environment. The vessel crew demonstrated exceptional communication and station-keeping, while onboard personnel adapted schedules and operations to support continuous work across both day and night shifts.

HYDRA’s structured approach to safety, logistics, and personnel management ensured that construction activities offshore could proceed without delay, reinforcing confidence in HYDRA as a reliable partner for critical path operations.
